# Divisibility by 6 Workout

Directions:
Notes: Divisibility rules are easy to learn and make factoring numbers easier.
A number is divisible by 6 when 3 divides that number evenly.
This also means that 6 is a factor of that number.

Examples:
A.    6 divides 12 evenly because 12÷3 = the whole number 4.
3 and 4 are both factors of 12.
B.    6 does not divide 13 evenly because 13÷6 =2.33… not a whole number.
6 is not a factor of 13.

A short cut rule for 6.
A number is divisible by 6 if it’s digits add to a number that is evenly divisible by 3
and the number also ends in 0,2,4,6,or 8 (an even number)

Example: Is 132 divisible by 6?
First: 1 + 3 + 2 = 6 and 6 is divisible by 3. So 132 is divisible by 3.
Second: is 132 divisible by 2. Yes because the last digit is even; 2.
Answer: 132 is divisible by 6 because it is divisible by both 3 and 2.

Because 132÷6 = 22 both 6 and 22 are factors of 132.
